English Training Sessions to Graduate Students
"How to Communicate Scientific Knowledge with the English-oriented Mindset"

Lecturer:
Yasuko Uemura (Instructor, Faculty of Agriculture, Iwate University)

Schedule:
Orientation & Sign-up: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18
Sessions: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, starting on May 25.
The sessions are planned to last until October.

Place:
Seminar Room, Cryobiosystem Research Center, Faculty of Agriculture

Intended participants:
Graduate students (mainly PhD students) in agriculture and engineering.
Goals:
1. To improve ability to understand papers written in English in a spontaneous and precise manner.
2. To improve ability to write papers in English.
3. To improve ability to have meaningful oral discussion with other scientists in English.

Methods and notes:
A large part of the session time will be spent on interactive training through various methods of communication, including reading papers, listening to
recorded (or live) talks, summarizing information, writing short essays, and orally asking and answering questions. This course is designed
specifically for those who do not have a sufficient level of communication skills of English as a second language.
