Information for Foreign Researchers

Admission of Foreign Researchers

Iwate University admits many international researchers (mainly as visiting researchers, foreign postdoctoral fellows with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, etc.) from countries throughout the world. These researchers engage in joint research projects with researchers at the university. If you wish to apply as a researcher, search for a researcher who shares your field of research on the "Researcher Directory." The admissions process will begin only after you have been approved for admission.

1. Contact the researcher you will apply to and gain his/her approval.
*If you are a postdoctoral fellow with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, apply for research funds first. Initiate contact after you have been approved for the funds.
2. Submit the documents necessary for the approval process.

3. Once you are approved, acquire a visa for your stay in Japan and apply for housing.
4. Come to Japan.

Housing for Researchers

For visiting overseas researchers, Iwate University offers different housing accommodations for different lengths of time.

For a term of study lasting less than one month: The Tokyuso Guest House
For a term of study lasting from one month to a year: International House rooms for researchers

The Tokyuso Guest House

The Tokyuso Guest House has 2 Japanese-style 2-person rooms and 6 western-style single rooms available. Each room has a bathroom, desk and chair, and bedding. The daily fee is about JPY 3,000. A reservation must be made by an Iwate University staff member. If interested, please ask for more information from your instructor or supervisor.

International House Rooms for Researchers

The International House has 9 single rooms available for researchers. Each room has a bathroom, kitchen, refrigerator, desk and chair, bed and air-conditioner. Also a coin laundry room is available at JPY 100 per machine. A reservation must be made by a university employee (instructors or staff). The fee is about JPY 50,000 per month. Residents should prepare their own meals. If interested, please ask for more information from your instructor or supervisor.
