Q. Why did you choose Iwate University?

My study-abroad experience began when I came to Iwate University as an exchange student in September 2015. Morioka is a quiet and convenient place, so I thought itʼd be a good location to study. In the year that I was here as an exchange student, I met many different kinds of people and got to know people of different cultures and ways of thinking. The decision to go to Iwate University for graduate school came naturally.

Q. What do you study?

I am in the Department of Design and Media Technology. Iʼm doing research on how the design-engineering fields (the environment, products etc.) and the media-engineering fields (networks, interactions, etc.) can combine to elevate the quality of everyday life.

Q. How do you feel about Iwate University? How do you like it here?

Life at Iwate University is peaceful. Iʼm very content, getting to eat delicious apples in the winter, and encounter so many flowers Iʼve never seen before. I love flowers, and every day I make a new discovery. This is also one of the charms of Morioka.

Q. What do you like about Morioka and/or Iwate Prefecture?

I like that the seasons are clear, and that the people of Morioka are so kind. For instance, when my yukata sash was coming undone at the Sansa Festival, an old woman I didnʼt know came over to fix it. It was so helpful.

Q. Why did you choose Iwate University?

The main reason I chose Iwate University was that it offers subject that I am interested in and that are related to the career that I want. Iwate University also offers pre-arrival application for foreigners, which allows us to apply only by submitting the necessary documents (the application form and our EJU results) and without having to go to Japan to take the examination, which saves us a lot of money. That was another reason why I chose Iwate University

Q. What do you study?

Currently my focus is mainly on electronic devices, studying electronic components and related theories and technologies that serve as the basis for electronics

I am satisfied with my university life in Iwate University. I have also made friends with Japanese people and a lot of people from different countries

Q. What do you like about Morioka and/or Iwate Prefecture?

I had no idea what Iwate was like before I came to Japan, but when I first came here, I knew somehow that I would fall in love with this place. Compared to big cities like Tokyo, there are some inconveniences, like transportation and accommodation for tourists who come to visit Iwate. But one thing that big cities definitely lack is the kind-heartedness and warm-heartedness of the residents in Iwate. Every morning on my way to the university, many of my Japanese neighbors will greet me, even if we donʼt know each other. These small gestures make me feel so warm and comfortable and make me want to stay in Iwate, this lovely and beautiful place.

Q. What would you like to say to students who wish to study in Iwate University in the future?

To those who plan to study in Japan: why not consider Iwate University? I am glad I came to Iwate and do not regret it. The residents of Iwate are warm-hearted and the place is rich with nature. Come explore the hidden charms of Iwate.
