This week's Global Village event has been the most active this semester! Students and staff learned how to play jiànzi--China's famous shuttlecock kicking game--as well as count from 1 to 10 in Mandarin. Many thanks, Cui Huayue!
The next Global Village event will be an interactive, multilingual, multicultural discussion on SCIP-Philippines students' experience on poverty and other issues. 今週のグローバルビレッジイベントは今期始まって以来、一番のアクティブなイベントでした！日本人学生、留学生、職員の皆さんも参加して、羽で出来たおもちゃを蹴る「ジェンズ」と呼ばれる中国の有名な遊びに挑戦しました。１から10まで中国語で数えながら、10回続くことを目指して参加者の皆さんはとても盛り上がっていました。崔華月さん楽しい時間をありがとうございました！
次回のグローバルビレッジイベントは地球規模の課題である貧困問題をディスカッションします！フィリピンでの海外研修に参加した学生から体験もシェアしてもらいます。ディスカッションを通して、日本人学生、留学生とたくさん意見交換をしましょう！5月31日（水）12時～1時、学生センターB棟1階グローバルビレッジでお待ちしています。ランチを持って、お友達も誘って、グローバルビレッジにレッツゴー！
「地域で活躍するグローバル人材から学ぶ」と題して行われた本日のグローバルビレッジの講演は、太田 靖氏（大平洋金属株式会社）が海外とのニッケル鉱石の取引を行う企業の担当官として、海外業務の苦労話と魅力について語ってくださいました。学生からは「実際に海外の人々と働いている人の意見はとても参考になりました」、「一番印象に残ったことは、自分の価値観、世界観が広がって、選択肢を持つきっかけとなった、という海外経験のメリットの話です。」等の感想がでました。
The May 18 Global Village lecture, "Learning from Persons with Global Perspectives: Working in the Region", was given by guest speaker Yasushi Ohta, of Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. Mr. Ohta is a company officer conducting nickel ore trade. He talked about the challenges and charms of overseas operations from his own experience.
57 Iwate University students attended the session. Their comments about the lecture include: "The opinions of those who actually work with people abroad were very helpful"; "What impressed me most was my (new) understanding of my value, the expanding world view, and the benefits of overseas experience".
The May 17 Global Village event was conducted by Russian exchange student Katya Sokhareva. Katya shared a variety of delightful images and insights about her impressions of St. Petersburg and Morioka. The much-enjoyed presentation ended with a Q/A session--participants exchanged commentary with Katya and each other in English and Japanese.
Our next event will be on Wed, May 23, 12-1pm at the Global Village Lounge (Student Center-B). The International Office's own Cui Huayue will teach us how to play a traditional "kicking" game for learning Chinese numbers and vocabulary. Wear comfy clothes! Bring your lunch, and a friend!
今週のグローバルビレッジイベントはロシアからの交換留学生 Katya Sokharevaさんによるプレゼンテーションでした。Katyaさんはサンクトペテルブルクと盛岡の印象について、素敵な写真をたくさん使いながら、留学生ならではの視点で発表してくれました。プレゼンテーションの後には質問タイムがあり、参加者の皆さんはKatyaさんや他の学生と英語や日本語を使って交流を楽しんでいました。
次回のグローバルビレッジイベントは５月２３日(水) 12時～1時、学生センターB棟グローバルビレッジで開催されます！岩手大学国際課の職員である崔華月さんが数や言葉を学ぶための中国の伝統的なゲーム"kicking"のやり方を教えてくださいます。ぜひ動きやすい靴で来てください。ランチを持って、お友達も連れて、グローバルビレッジにレッツゴー！
５月11日に行われたグローバルビレッジイベントでは、カナダ・サスカチュアンからNairさんをお招きしてとても貴重な講演をしていただきました。以前はIBMのエンジニアでもあったNairさん、初めは趣味として始められた屋内栽培でしたが、すぐに魅了され夢中になっていったそうです。その後、カナダで初の低光量条件下での屋内栽培によるレモンの開発に成功されました。今回の講演では、Nairさんによる興味深い農作物についての話に加え、啓発的な力強いお話もしていただき、参加者にとって胸に響くような講演となりました。
The May 11 Global Village event was an inspirational lecture by Mr. M. P. M. Nair. A former IBM engineer, Mr. Nair first took up indoor plant cultivation as a hobby which soon developed into one of his many passions. Prompted by a bet, he developed the first Canadian domestic indoor lemon which can thrive on low light conditions. Enlightening lessons about courage and personal growth were shared.
次回のグローバルビレッジイベントは5月17日(水)12時～1時、ロシアからの交換留学生Katya Sokharevaさんから、盛岡とサンクトペテルブルクとのびっくりな違いと面白い共通点について発表していただきます。お菓子も用意してお待ちしてますよ。もちろんランチを食べながらでもOKです。お友達も誘って、学生センターB棟グローバルビレッジにレッツゴー!

4月26日、新年度初めてのグローバルビレッジのイベントは、歓迎パーティーで盛大に始まりました！ 10ヶ国からの留学生・日本人学生51名もが一同に介し、笑いあり、即興アカペラソングあり、おやつあり、ビンゴありの中で国籍や学部を超えた交流を深めることが出来ました。イベントの冒頭では、岩渕学長から学生へ英語による歓迎のあいさつがありました。グローバルビレッジを通じた本学のグローカルな取り組みをお話しいただきました。今後もグローバルビレッジは、学内から海外規模の視野を体感できるイベントを企画していきます。あなたもグローバルビレッジから世界を広げてみませんか。
次回、5月11日（木）12時～1時、グローバルビレッジイベントはカナダ・サスカチュアンからNiarさんをお招きして、室内の低光量条件下でも栽培可能な農作物の研究について英語で講演いただきます。料理・園芸好きなNiarさんが,いかにカナダレモンの屋内栽培を成功させたのかもうかがえます。

On April 26 the Global Village hosted a welcome party, and it was a hit! 51 attendees from 10 countries (including Japan) joined in on the fun. Talents were shared, and friendships were made. As a special surprise, Dr. Iwabuchi--President of Iwate University--gave a much-appreciated welcome speech to new and returning students.
Our next Global Village event is a presentation by guest speaker Mr. M. P. M. Niar from Sasketchewan, Canada, about low light-tolerant indoor plant cultivation (as well as advice on leading an active life). A culinary enthusiast and horticulture pioneer, Mr. Niar is the first to ever cultivate lemons from within the home in Canada.
