岩手大学の協定校である大連理工大学（中国大連市）が主催の短期サマースクールへの参加者を募集します。プログラムの内容は、中国語の学習、文化体験、中国人学生との交流などが含まれています。

◇参加対象
(1) 岩手大学の正規課程の学生（学部生・大学院生）
(2) 中国国籍ではないこと
(3) 学科別研修、交流および中国語授業の一部を英語で行う場合があるため、受講に必要な言語能力を有していること
*日本語または英語対応可のチューターがおりますので、中国語能力の有無を問わずご参加いただけます。

◇プログラム参加費用
★大連理工大学が負担する費用：大連滞在中の宿泊費、開幕式と閉幕式および市内見学とキャンプファイヤーの食事代、授業料、研修及び見学費用、空港送迎と団体移動の交通費
★参加学生が負担する費用：往復旅費、海外保険、ビザ等取得費用（参加者は札幌または東京でビザ申請する必要がある。交通費と手数料は参加者負担）、個人的な消費、食事代（上記食事代のほか）など

◇単位について
大連理工大学から修了証書及び実践科目1.5単位の単位修得証明書を交付しますが、岩手大学では本プログラムの単位認定がございません。

・正規の学部生または大学院生で日本語による修学を目指す者（2024年4月現在）
・採用された場合の受給期間が令和 6 年 4 月より 1 学年相当以上ある者
・在留資格が「留学」であること
・JEESが行っているほかの奨学金を受給しない者
・2023年7月(第1回)または12月(第2回)に実施した日本語能力試験N1又はN2を受験し、優秀な成績を修め合格した者。

〇奨学金の概要
・給付月額：50,000円
・本学より2名程度推薦予定。全国で80名程度採用予定。

Did you all enjoy this year's Golden Week? Ritt, a Thai exchange student, also seemed to enjoy the activities unique to Iwate! He also looked up the meaning of each of the Golden Week holidays. Please read on as you look back on your memories of this year's Golden Week!

Golden Week (ゴールデンウィーク)

The holiday is a precious time that everyone waits for. One of the long holiday periods in Japan is "Golden Week." Golden Week is a series of national holidays in Japan. It usually takes place from late April to early May. There are generally four days off, which include

Showa Day (April 29) commemorates Emperor Showa's birthday, formerly known as the Emperor's birthday until his abdication in 1989. Renamed in 2005, it replaced Greenery Day on the calendar.

Constitution Remembrance Day (May 3) marks the adoption of Japan's post-war Constitution in 1947. Established as a national holiday by the Holidays Act of 1948, it's a day to reflect on the Constitution's significance and Japan's progress.

Greenery Day (May 4) was originally observed on April 29 but moved to May 4, 2007, to celebrate nature and the environment. Named in honor of Emperor Showa's affinity for tree planting and environmental projects during his reign, it emphasizes nature conservation.

Children's Day (May 5), also known as Boys' Day, celebrates children's happiness with traditional events and decorations. One prominent decoration is the Koinobori, or carp flag, believed to bring luck and fortune to children's growth due to the carp's symbolism of strength and energy as they swim upstream and leap waterfalls.

When we have these holidays along with the usual weekends, it's like getting extra time, resembling a golden opportunity for everyone to rest at their leisure. Do you also have these kinds of long holidays in your own country?

These holidays come two weeks after the semester starts, giving a good chance to relax and get ready after studying hard. Lots of students use this long break to go home, finish their homework, rest, or go on trips. During this break, I went to Himekami Mountain. The weather was nice, and lots of people were climbing. Even though it was tiring, the view from the top was amazing and totally worth it.

Golden Week is one of the busiest tourist seasons in Japan because many people take advantage of consecutive holidays to travel within the country or abroad. It is also a good time for you to explore other places. When you come to study at Iwate University, it is not only about studying but also about exploring the world and gaining experience in various aspects.

岩手大学イーハトーブサマープログラム（IUIS）とは、日本語と日本文化を学ぶ2週間の夏季プログラムです。海外協定校に在籍する学生が対象で、日本語入門と中上級の２つのコースで募集します。参加者は、キャンパス内の留学生向け学生寮（国際交流会館）で生活しながら、日本語授業のほか、日本文化体験やフィールドトリップを通じて、日本や岩手について理解を深めることができます。

We are pleased to announce that we are now taking applications for the Iwate University IHATOV Summer Program (IUIS) 2024.

The Iwate University IHATOV Summer Program (IUIS) is a 2-week program where students can learn Japanese language and culture. This program is open to students who are enrolled in our partner universities, and offers two Japanese courses, an introductory course, and a lower intermediate course. Participants will be able to deepen their understanding of Japan and Iwate through not only Japanese classes but also Japanese cultural activities and field trips while staying in an international student housing on campus (International House).

From August 19, 2024 to September 1, 2024 (13 nights and 14 days)

◆Organized by
Iwate University International Education Center

◆Venue
Iwate University and facilities in Morioka city and Iwate Prefecture

◆Accommodation
Iwate University International House (shared rooms, or single rooms in some cases)

Standard plan: Japanese classes (morning), Japanese culture classes (afternoon), and field trips (weekends)

110,000 - 140,000 JYN /person (Depending on the number of participants.)

岩手大学Global Villageには、かわいいマスコットキャラクターがいます。
名前は「グロビ」です。グロビはカワウソで、黄緑色にも緑色にもなれます。
グロビの由来を紹介します。グロビは留学生のJAKE MARKERT（ドイツ）さんがデザインしました。グロビの名前の由来は、もちろん、Global Villageです。グロビがカワウソなのは、盛岡市に川が多いからです。また、カワウソは貝を割って食べるのに石を使うので、岩手大学のマスコットキャラクターである「がんちゃん」とも繋がりがあります。グロビが緑色なのは、岩手大学のスクールカラーが緑色なのと、岩手が自然豊かだからです。
グロビはGlobal Villageのイベントのポスターに現れます。グロビは、Global Villageに興味を持った人がGlobal Villageに来てくれるのを、いつでも楽しみに待っています。
ぜひ気軽にGlobal Villageのイベントに来てくれると嬉しいです。お待ちしています！

Global Village has a cute new mascot! Meet "Globi", the green otter designed by one our own international students, Jake Markert. The name "Globi" comes from "Global Village", the space where Iwate University's International Education Center organizes and holds various multicultural and multilingual events.
The inspiration for an otter design came from the various rivers winding around the city of Morioka and an otter's connection with rocks and stones, using them to break open their hard-shelled prey. He felt that this would be a nice homage to Iwate University's former mascot, a colorfully cute rock, "Gan-chan".
Globi has been and will continue to be used in many of Global Village's posters, pamphlets, and presentations. Please be on the lookout for their dark "Gandai-green" fur and sweet smile.

Global Village Welcome Party

(グローバルビレッジイベント情報：Welcome Party)

Iwate University recently welcomed new international students with a warm welcome party to foster connections and celebrate diversity. More than 30 people, including both foreign and Japanese students, joined in the fun at Student Center B. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as everyone played ice-breaking games and engaged in free conversation. Students laughed and bonded over shared experiences and cultural exchanges.

The event commenced with carefully designed ice-breaking activities to encourage interaction and conversation among attendees. Starting with a dynamic conversation game, participants were dealt topic cards to prompt discussions on various topics, followed by friendly rounds of rock-paper-scissors to exchange cards. Through this, students quickly got to know each other, sharing laughter and building connections that transcended cultural differences. Next came the Silent Birthday Line game, where participants communicated only through gestures, fostering a fun challenge to guess each other's intentions. Despite the silence, the room was alive with smiles and enjoyment as everyone worked together to arrange themselves in the birthday line. The final ice-breaking activity was the human knot game, where small groups untangled themselves into circles through coordinated movements. Each group showcased their teamwork and problem-solving skills, further strengthening bonds among participants.

Games, as a universal language of joy, have helped relieve the pressure of studying and foster friendly feelings among participants. Following the ice-breaking activities, attendees enjoyed free-flowing conversations over snacks and drinks, supported by Global Village. Various games like Kendama, Uno cards, and guessing games added to the merriment, providing opportunities for everyone to bond and have fun together. Amidst the fellowship and laughter, the true essence of the evening emerged--the chance to connect on a deeper level and form lasting friendships. Conversations flowed freely as students shared stories, insights, and aspirations, enriching each other's lives with diverse perspectives.

As the evening wrapped up, students felt grateful for the chance to connect and learn from each other. This event was just the beginning of lasting friendships and a journey enriched by the diverse cultures experienced during their studies at Iwate University.
