In Japan at least, Father's Day tends to be treated more lightly than Mother's Day. Still, just like Mother's Day, Ritt chose to highlight it. The way Father's Day is viewed seems to differ from country to country, making this a very interesting article. I hope you'll take a moment to read it!

Japanese Father's Day (父の日)
Last month, we talked about Mother's Day in Japan, so it wouldn't be complete without mentioning Father's Day as well. Just like Mother's Day, it is a time to express love, gratitude, and appreciation for the fathers and father figures in our lives.
In Japan, Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In 2025, this special day falls on June 15th. Known in Japanese as 父の日 (Chichi no Hi), Father's Day may not be as widely commercialized as Mother's Day, but it is still an important occasion in many families.
The idea of celebrating Father's Day also came from the United States, where it was first established in the early 20th century. The custom gradually spread to Japan, becoming more recognized during the post-war period as international influences grew. While it does not have as long a history or as many elaborate traditions as Mother's Day, Father's Day in Japan has been steadily gaining popularity.
Unlike Mother's Day, which is associated with carnations, Father's Day in Japan has its floral symbol: the yellow rose. Yellow is believed to symbolize strength, courage, and warmth--qualities often associated with fatherhood. In recent years, it has become common to give yellow roses, or even other yellow-themed gifts, as tokens of appreciation. Although the origins differ, it is a coincidence that the symbolic color of Father's Day in both Japan and Thailand is the same: yellow.
In other countries, Father's Day may be celebrated on different dates and in different ways. For example, in Thailand, it is observed on December 5th, the birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who is revered as the father of the nation. On this day, people often wear yellow and present canna flowers to their fathers as a sign of respect and gratitude.
Although customs and dates may vary, the spirit of Father's Day remains universal, It is a time to honor and appreciate the role that fathers and paternal figures play in our lives. As an international student at Iwate University, learning about these customs has been both heartwarming and eye-opening.

วันพ่อที่ญี่ปุ่น
เมื่อเดือนที่แล้วเราได้พูดถึงวันแม่ที่ญี่ปุ่นกันไป หากไม่ได้พูดถึงวันพ่อสักหนอ่ยก็ดูเหมือนจะขาดอะไรไป เช่นเดียวกับวันแม่ วันพ่อ เป็นช่วงเวลาแห่งการแสดงความรัก ความกตัญญู และความซาบซึ้งใจ ให้กับคุณพ่อและบุคคลที่เป็นเสมือนพ่อในชีวิตของเรา ที่ญี่ปุ่น วันพ่อจะจัดขึ้นในวันอาทิตย์ที่สามของเดือนมิถุนายน ในปี 2025 วันพิเศษนี้จะตรงกับวันที่ 15 มิถุนายน วันพ่อซึ่งในภาษาญี่ปุ่นเรียกว่าวันพ่อ (Chichi no Hi) อาจไม่ได้รับความนิยมเท่าวันแม่ แต่ก็ยังเป็นโอกาสสำคัญสำหรับครอบครัวหลายๆ ครอบครัว

ต่างจากวันแม่ซึ่งมักมีดอกคาร์เนชั่นเป็นส่วนประกอบ วันพ่อที่ญี่ปุ่นมีสัญลักษณ์ดอกไม้เป็นของตัวเอง นั่นก็คือ ดอกกุหลาบสีเหลือง เชื่อกันว่าสีเหลืองเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของความแข็งแกร่ง ความกล้าหาญ และความอบอุ่น ซึ่งเป็นคุณสมบัติที่มักสัมพันธ์กับความเป็นพ่อ ในช่วงไม่กี่ปีที่ผ่านมา การให้ดอกกุหลาบสีเหลืองหรือของขวัญอื่น ๆ ที่มีธีมสีเหลืองเพื่อแสดงความขอบคุณกลายเป็นเรื่องปกติ ถึงแม้จะมีที่มาจะแตกต่างกัน แต่ก็เป็นเรื่องบังเอิญที่สีสัญลักษณ์ของวันพ่อทั้งในญี่ปุ่นและที่ไทยต่างเป็นสีเดียวกัน นั่นคือ สีเหลือง
